The first inaugural Christmas Cracker Sale of Kerry Hill Females was held at Harrison & Hetherington, Borderway Mart on Thursday 9th December with a ‘Cracking trade’. The Sale was extremely well supported by both vendors and purchasers, with plenty of new faces in attendance securing new female bloodlines for their flocks.
Birsca Amelia, 2500gns
A very high standard of sheep were forward in every section, with trade reflecting this from start to finish. Topping the trade and taking a new female breed record of 2500gns was Birsca Amelia, yearling ewe scanned in- lamb to Whitcastles Angus, from junior member J Graham, Dumfries, Amelia sold to S Macgill & A Jones, Isle of Islay.
Woodhouse Yearling Ewe, 2,400gns
Following very close behind was a Woodhouse yearling ewe scanned in-lamb to Dalwyne Zeus, from the Owens family, Herefordshire, selling for 2,400gns to Mr & Mrs Burgess, Dumfries. Mr & Mrs Burgess then went on to sell their yearling ewe, TopSpot Dilly Dally scanned in-lamb to Reidstown Rambo, for 1900gns which was the third highest price of the day, to Mr M Nolan, Minehead.

Next, with a strong trade for ewe lambs knocking down to a top price of 1200gns was a March born ewe lamb from Sion Jones Fronarth Flock, Ceredigion, selling to C Gray & M Fairburn, Halifax. Continuing in the Fronarth pen, Sion saw another ewe lamb knocked down for 900gns to N Pagett, Preston. Next best was the first ewe lamb into the ring from Powys based R & J Price selling for 700gns to breeders C Gray & M Fairburn, Halifax.
