The Royal Highland Show held its inaugural Kerry Hill breed classes for the first time on Friday 21st June 2024. The classes were well supported with 15 exhibitors from across Scotland and Northern England travelling to exhibit their stock, from which Will Evans of the Lowlands Flock, Carmarthanshire had to choose his champion.
Champion went to a homebred shearling ewe from Chris Adamson’s Whitfield Flock, the ewe named Whitfield Double Diamond had also stood first in her class a few weeks earlier at the Socity’s National Show. She is from a Homebred Ram Whitfield Bombastic and Homebred Ewe Whitfield Paparazzi.
Reserve Champion went to the Male Champion a ram lamb named Top Spot Everest from Angie and Stuart Burgesse’s Top Spot Flock. Reserve Male Champion went to Robert Stott’s Hilltop flock with and aged ram Birsca Black Magic, whilst Reserve Female Champion went to Angie and Stuart Burgesse’s Top Spot Flock’s shearling ewe, Woodhouse 2.
The Society supported the first year at the Royal Highland with a breed stand in the NSA tent, with sheep kindly presented on the stand from Sophie Mccarlie’s Hassockrigg flock. The Society held a social evening ensued after the end of judging for exhibitors, and the many members who had travelled to support the classes from the ring side.
