Ladywood Ram lamb tops Carlisle sale at £1,400


A ram lamb from H Bright’s, Buxton based Ladywood flock, topped the sale with a price of £1400. The lamb was by a Pentrenant sire (42624) out of a home bred ewe (14423). He was knocked down to S Jones to join his Fronarth flock in Ceredigion.

Male Champion and Reserve Overall Champion -Ladywood Ram lamb – £1,400

The show was judged by R Price, Pentrenant flock, from Powys, who placed the Ladywood ram lamb first in his class, Male Champion and Reserve Overall Champion. Another ram lamb from H Bright made £1100, selling to Mr Hughes in Conwy.

The second highest price of the day for males went to a Calcot shearling ram that went for £1,200, selling to Mr S Smith, Orkney. The ram was by a Garregllwyd sire (42147) out of a home bred dam (17316)

A Pentrenant shearling ram went for £1000, sellling to N Pagett & G Brethertons Top Flight flock. The ram was from the Judge, R Price’s Pentrenant flock in Powys and was by a Woodhouse 2 (42102) sire out of a home bred dam (16218).

The Show Champion came from A Burgess, Top Spot flock, their ewe lamb Top Spot Crazy Chick stood Female Champion, then Overall Champion was by a Marlbrook sire (41477) out of a Pennine (19013) dam. She was knocked down at £1000 to D Brown from the Polaris flock in Sutherland.

Ewe lambs met a good trade and a female top price of £1200 was paid for Wrotham Isla, a ewe lamb from D Knowles Wrotham flock in Richmond, N Yorks. She was by a Pengwern (42700) ram out of a home bred ewe (21420) and was bought by N Pagett & G Bretherton for their Top Flight flock in Lancashire.

Strong Ewe lamb prices continued with C Adamson, Whitfield flock, from Lancashire, making £1000 for two of his ewe lambs. Whitfield Cha Cha Cha, by a Woodhouse 2 sire (42432) out of a Marlbrook dam (12232) and Whitfield Class Act was by Carpenters Ace (42647) out of a Carpenters ewe (20284).

Top price yearling ewe came from a strong pen from S McCarlie, Hassockriggs flock, Shotts, Lanarkshire, the ewe was knocked down to S MacGill, Coull flock, from Isle of Islay for £1000.
