Open Day at the Crochmaid Flock, East Tinwold, Lochmaben, Dumfries.
A downpour in the morning did not dampen the spirts of the many Kerry Hill enthusiasts attending the Open Day.
Firstly, after coffee and cake, Dan Bull gave a presentation on the structural correctness of sheep. Stuart Burgess held a ewe lamb whilst Dan pointed out the structure of the sheep. She was very well behaved!
After that we had a quiz with 20 questions which were anagrams of British sheep breeds, this was a lot harder than it sounds!
We then moved to another barn where a lovely dinner was served. Home made soup, burgers, sausages, pizza, salad and many cakes were consumed in a short time before we were outside again, the rain having stopped, to do the stock judging.
Stuart Burgess was master judge and the winners were Lindsay Stuart with 200 points, Jim Goldie with 198 points and Sue Burn with 196 points. Thanks to the local Young Farmers for sorting out the results for us.
Angie Burgess demonstrated how to set about trimming a ewe lamb, there was a lot of interest and a few members had a clip or two!
Finally, the raffle took place with loads of prizes donated, raising £183 for Parkinsons charity.
President, John Owens, presented Cath & Martin Kewley with wine and chocolates and thanked them for a superb day.
