A cracking trade was once again had at H&H’s Borderwway Mart in Carlisle for the Kerry Hill Society’s 3rd In-lamb ewe sale held on Friday 8th December.
The day started with a show of ewe lambs kindly judged by Kate Esler of the Kingswater flock, her pick of the day was Lot 81, a March born ewe lamb from J&P Owens’s, Woodhouse 2 Flock. In Reserve was Lot 76, Top Spot Delight, from A Burgess’s Top Spot Flock.
The sale saw strong bidding throughout, with buyers from all parts of the UK making good use of the online bidding facility. Saving the best until last, the top price of the day was 2,200gns which was gained by the pre-sale winning ewe lamb, bred and sold by J&P Owens, Woodhouse 2 Flock, Shobdon. This March born lamb was sired by Dalwyne Avicii out of a homebred Woodhouse ewe. The lucky bidders were A&S Burgess of the Top Spot flock, Dumfries.
The Woodhouse team also secured the next highest price of 1500gns for a shearling ewe, carrying a single, to a Downwood ram. The purchaser was GL Howells, Landysul, who also purchased a further two shearling ewes for 1000gns a piece from the Woodhouse pen.
Anna Smith saw strong bidding for shearling ewes from her Wester Flock, peaking at 1400gn, for shearling ewe carrying a single to Kingswater Arizona, selling to new breeder C Dick, Peeblesshire. The next best in the Wester pen also achieved 1000gns, she sold to D Crozier’s Cackinish flock in Co. Fermanagh.
Ewe lambs once again met strong trade with three achieving 800gns. The first was a March born lamb from S Jones Fronarth flock, selling to GL Howells, LLandysul and then a further two lambs from A&S Burgesse’s Top Spot pen, selling to M Pearse’s, Huish flock, Devon and G Hawkins Kenslow flock, Bakewell.
