Top price among the 32 Kerry Hill forward was Fairfax Harriet 27312, shown by Louise Barritt, Keighley, which made 600gns. The shearling ewe is by the home-bred Calcot son, Fairfax Bonfire, bred from a Pentrenant daughter, Woodhouse 2, and bought by C McKenzie, Askam-in-Furness, who, from the same pen, also went to 500gns to acquire Fairfax Hawthorn, sired by Pentrenant 41832, out of a Cardington-bred ewe
Best of the male prices was the first prize ram lamb, Fairfax Easy On, a Calcot March-born lamb also presented by Louise Barritt and sold outside the ring at 500gns to R&M McIntosh, Hawick.
Andrew Fisher, Nidderdale flock, Low Laithe, Harrogate, again enjoyed a successful day in the show ring, backed up by a solid trade with his first prize shearling ewe, a Carpenters Bob daughter, making 400gns to C Goddard, Castle Douglas, and his Nidderdale 30078, a March-born twin ewe lamb bred from Lowlands 43624 selling for 350gns to LJ Riley, Huddersfield. The same home was also responsible for a 320gns ram lamb, a 300gns shearling ewe and 200gns ewe lamb.
Of the remainder, Mrs RE Wilkin, White Syke flock, Moor Monkton, York, made 400gns and 300gns with shearling ewes, Jack Graham, Brisca flock, Corrie, Lockerbie, selling another trio at 350gns twice and 250gns, plus a shearling ram also at 250gns, with another at 300gns from the Paget and Bretherton partnership, Topflight flock, Preston.
