Django Rides to Victory at the Great Yorkshire Show

With the honour of the National Show title on offer, this year’s Great Yorkshire Show saw a fine turnout of Kerry Hills, judged by Robert Price, who praised the depth and quality across the board. Rising to the top was a striking aged ram, Marlbrook Django, exhibited by Will Awan, who was awarded both Male and Overall Champion.

Bred by J Croose of the Marlbrook Flock in Herefordshire, the ram was purchased by W Awan last summer as a shearling. By a Whitcastles sire and out of a Marlbrook ewe, Django’s win at Harrogate marked his fourth consecutive male championship and second overall title of the season.

Judge Robert Price commented: “The champion caught my eye. He’s powerful, which is the sort of sheep I like – with plenty of bone and a sharp head. We had good, big classes of sheep and a strong standard throughout.”

Will Awan added: “I bought him in from John Croose last summer and he now runs with my flock of ewes at home. I thought I’d give him a run out and it worked out better than I expected.”

Reserve Overall Champion went to local exhibitor Anna Wilson of the Gemstone Flock, North Yorkshire, with a smart shearling ewe that stood top of a competitive class. It marked a proud moment for Anna at her local show.

In the young handlers section, Joseph Wilson led the way in a well-supported class, with Jacob Willan and Seb Simmons close behind. A special mention also goes to Seb, who later secured Champion Non-MV Young Handler – a fantastic achievement.
