Crag Top climbs to 700gns top at Skipton

At the second Society Show and Sale of Kerry Hill Sheep held on behalf of the Kerry Hill Flock Book Society, the leading price of 700gns went to the first prize aged ram, a 3-shear ram from the Crag Top flock of Miss and Mr TJ&R Rogers and Leach.

Pentrenant Chives has served as stock ram at Shackleton Hill, Hebden Bridge and with plenty of high-quality daughters now in the flock it was time to move to pastures new to Holmfirth with Messrs Whiteley.

A shearling son of ‘Chives’ out of a Four crosses ewe from Crag Top then sold to the underbidder for 420gns, LJ Riley Ltd.

420gns was the same price as the first prize shearling ram from the Nidderdale flock of Andrew Fisher, a Nidderdale Captain son bred from a Trecelynen ewe which stayed locally with Rebecca Spensley from Thorlby.

Shearling ewes found a ready audience and Andrew Fisher was once again successful in securing first and second in show. His first prize a Pentrenant Cymru daughter made 300gns as did his second prize, a gimmer by a homebred ram with both selling to TE Booth from the South Lakes.

The Fairfax flock from Keighley and the property of Ms HL Barritt attended with their annual consignment of ewe lambs which found good support from around the ring. Best price was for an unplaced February twin by the Marlbrook sire which made 370gns with the first prize lamb by the same sire making 210gns and both selling to D Pawson&Sons from Billinge.
