Glenview leads the way at fifth annual Omagh sale

The fifth annual Northern Ireland society show and sale was held at Richard Beattie Livestock Market, Omagh, on Saturday 13 September. The sale saw strong trade across both male and female sections, with James McClintock tasked with judging the pre-sale show.

Leading the way was a shearling ewe from Messrs J. and N. Colhoun’s Glenview flock, Omagh. Glenview 31195 took the champion rosette in the presale show, and topped the sale at £1300. A March 2024-born daughter of Woodhouse 2 Abracadabra out of Glenview Lucy, she sold to D. and C. McGlynn, Drumkeen.

Next in the female section, CJ Johnston of the Islandview flock, Stonefield, sold a shearling ewe, Islandview 31638, for £600 to Ross Jamieson’s Mountview flock. By a Kinedale ram and out of a Ballykeel ewe, she was born in April 2024.

Mr Johnston also produced the top-priced ewe lamb, Islandview 32451, which made £580 when knocked down to Dale Wylie, Kells. The April 2024-born lamb, by another Kinedale sire and out of a homebred Islandview ewe, was one of several strong entries from the flock.

The leading ewe trade came from Mr D. Brannigan’s Forest View flock, with Islandview 27599, a ewe bred by Mr Johnston, selling at £500 to John McIlrath, Ballymena. Born in April 2022, she was sired by the same Kinedale ram as Mr Johnston’s top-priced shearling ewe, and out of a Ballykeel ewe.

Shearling rams

In the ram section, Glenview 44747, a shearling ram from Messrs Colhoun, hit £1100 to top the trade. Another March 2024-born son of Woodhouse 2 Abracadabra, out of Glenview Lara, he sold to G. Corrigan, Letterbreen. The shearling also took the reserve overall ticket in the presale show, cementing a strong show for the Glenview team.

Also among the leading males was Tannybrake 44764, a shearling ram from Dale Wylie’s Tannybrake flock, which reached £750. Sired by a Reidstown ram and out of a homebred ewe, the March 2024-born entry was purchased by David Wightman, Oughley.
