Woodhouse Farm Fendi crowned Supreme Sheep at Great Yorkshire Show

A strong entry of Kerry Hills took centre stage at this year’s Great Yorkshire Show, where judge James McClintock, of the Reeds Town flock, Northern Ireland, tapped out a champion which would go on to enjoy a remarkable week.

His Overall Champion was Woodhouse Farm Fendi, a home-bred shearling gimmer exhibited by Ellie Owens, of the Woodhouse flock, Leominster. By the 12,000gns breed record holder Woodhouse Farm El Fabiolo, the stylish female first secured the Shearling Ewe, Female Championship and Overall Breed Championship before returning to the main ring to be crowned Overall Supreme Sheep.

Competing at the Great Yorkshire Show for the first time, Ms Owens added another major accolade to an already impressive season, having also claimed the Kerry Hill championship at this year’s Royal Highland Show with the same ewe.

Standing Reserve Overall Champion was Mrs A. Wilson’s aged ewe, Gemstone Crystelle. Born in April 2022, the ewe is by Freebrough Lionel and out of a Woodhouse 2-bred ewe. It first secured the aged ewe class before standing Reserve Female and Reserve Overall Champion.

The Male Championship went to Andrew Fisher with his first prize aged ram, while Ellie Owens’ shearling ram secured the Reserve Male Championship.

Ms Owens enjoyed further success in the group competitions, winning both the Pairs and Group of Three classes before her trio went on to secure the Non-MV Interbreed Group of Three title.

With Kerry Hills claiming both Overall Supreme Sheep and the Non-MV Interbreed Group of Three, it proved another memorable Great Yorkshire Show for the breed and a fitting reward for a strong turnout of exhibitors.
